this was my first time seeing great fountain! how do you count the end of an eruption? i stuck around to see it erupt maybe 6-8 ft above the crater rim at 1846 but it continued to splash to around the crater rim level when i left around 1930

Hi Chris, Great fountain erupts in series, where bursting is interrupted by a few minutes of relative quiet. The end of an eruption is counted when a subsequent attempt at a series does not eject substantial water onto the platform. In this case, if Great Fountain was only boiling in the crater, then this would not count as a new series and the eruption would be over.
