Available data show Steamboat did not have a major eruption this day. See: http://www.geyserstudy.org/news/steamboat_21_february_2007.pdf

Knowing what we have learned over the last several years of Steamboat activity, I think it can be argued that this was indeed an eruption. A prevailing wind direction away from the boardwalk/runoff channel combined with a large snow pack, could potentially absorb any runoff, especially from a short duration water phase. The YNP Geology paper is too dismissive of the large temperature spike on the 21st. This is the mostly likely start time just after 0000 on 2/21. Additionally the YNP Geology in basin observations were not made until 2+ days after the suspected eruption. As always this is simply my personal opinion and not a statement of fact, always open to discussion and other perspectives. Adding this comment for future research to ensure that this eruption is looked at more closely/carefully.
