30191 31 Aug 1994 @ 1200 --- research-mab 8/31/1994 - no time noted - After the Ledge eruption... Hurricane Vent has started an interesting eruptive pattern – first noticed Fri or Sat. There is a steam vent on the NE side of slope which will release a great amount of steam for 30 sec. After which water flows from a small 1” x 1/2” (?) square vent below the steamvent quite near the pool level. The rock around the water run off area is black in color – the water flows for 30 sec or so… Have seen series of eruptions & also single eruptions an hour or so apart.

Water phase is longer and heavier than usual. - Colloidal Pool – very muddy at surface with intense bubbling.
10862 06 Aug 1988 @ 1800 --- research-mab 8/6/1988 Hurricane Vent In Porcelain Basin, Hurricane Vent has an upside down (for a geyser, that is) eruption. It’s eruption is preceded by increased steaming from the fumeroles to the north. After several minutes of increased steam, water overflows from a horizontal crack in the rock, which is about one foot long and about 1½ feet above the water level, on the north side. The water flows out for about 1-2 minutes.
30806 03 Jul 1988 @ 1200 --- research-mab 7/3/1988 - no time noted - Hurricane Vent has dropped about 6” in water level. It continues to have “water fall” eruptions out of the horizontal crack on the north west side of the rock wall.
10861 02 Jul 1988 @ 1800 --- research-mab 7/2/1988 Observations: Hurricane Vent has dropped about 6” in water level. It continues to have “water fall” eruptions out of the horizontal crack on the north west side of the rock wall.

Hurricane Vent is a light brown, no increase in activity. = Colloidal Pool has gone crazy. There are 3-4 boiling spots, all of which are constantly going. The main one is “erupting” as high as 10 feet! This causes large waves to surge over the pool’s edge & under the boardwalk.
10848 14 Jul 1976 @ 1800 --- research-mab 07/14/1976 At Hurricane Vent, the little fumarole is much quieter of late. Water fall continues.
10849 19 Jun 1976 @ 1800 --- research-mab 06/19/1976 Hurricane Vent – first waterfall I have seen in a hot spring. The cracks in the Northeast side of the vent have enlarged over the winter. Water appears to be constantly flowing from a crack in the vent, dropping two feet to the pool at the base of the vent.

10859 25 Sep 1971 @ 1800 --- research-mab 09/25/1971 Hurricane Vent has a line of 1 inch high bright yellow sulphur crystals being deposited from steam vents near the top NE edge of the Hurricane pit. In that the crystals are long, relatively separate from each other, and are in sharp contrast to the brownish purple soil below, I can honestly say that this is one of the most beautiful sights that I have seen in the basin all summer. (RH)
32940 11 Sep 1971 @ 1800 --- research-mab 09/11/1971 - {afternoon temps 1430-1900} - Hurricane Vent 172° - no visual change last 6 weeks = Colloidal 194°

10836 04 Oct 1964 @ 1800 --- research-mab 10/04/1964 Hurricane Vent has gained a foot or so of water as has the small ex-mudpot just east of Colloidal Pool.
33591 03 Oct 1964 @ 1801 --- research-mab - no time noted - Hurricane Vent lost water at the same rate and time with Colloidal and was completely dry on October 3. It began to gain water on the 4th and was full again on the 5th. When the water was drained, tunnel could be seen which probably connects with Colloidal.
10835 03 Oct 1964 @ 1800 --- research-mab 10/03/1964 Hurricane Vent is completely dry.
10840 30 Sep 1964 @ 1800 --- research-mab 09/30/1964 Big Colloidal & Hurricane Vent have gained but not to original level.

10833 26 Sep 1964 @ 1800 --- research-mab 09/26/1964 Hurricane Vent’s water level remains lowered.{generic time}
33593 25 Sep 1964 @ 1200 --- research-mab - no times noted - Colloidal Pool and Hurricane Vent are two well-known features in the Porcelain Basin. When observed on September 20 (and as reported through the summer), Colloidal Pool was boiling to about five feet. The water was cloudy blue in color. Hurricane Vent was a calm pool of gray water. On the morning of September 25, Colloidal Pool became still and dropped about eight inches. The boiling then resumed and the water was a murky gray color. Hurricane Vent had ebbed about two feet. Throughout the following three days, Colloidal Pool gained and lost (to a maximum drop of twenty inches) while Hurricane Vent remained low.
10832 25 Sep 1964 @ 0000 --- research-mab 09/25/1964 Hurricane Vent has lost some water. Fresh mud shows up all along the water edge.
33715 19 Aug 1954 @ 1200 --- research-mab - no time noted - Hurricane Vent, an ex-geyser that had blown out its tube many years ago,was boiling more vigorously than usual and its water level had dropped about four inches. (This had never been noticed in the preceding six years by the writer.) Hurricane Vent is generally a few degrees above boiling, but during this increased boiling period its temperature was only 199ºF., which is the boiling point for this altitude of 7,500 feet. [YNN V29 #1 Jan 1955]
33519 25 Jul 1946 @ 1410 --- research-mab Colloidal Pools Mildly boiling activity throughout the month = Hurricane Vent Continuously boiling, giving all evidence of superheated water. July 25, at 2:10 p.m. an Irish Setter belonging to Sterling Thompson of Billings jumped into this boiling vent. Has not been seen since.
No attachments for this geyser.
