Note:Thursday Sept 20 1979 - Ledge Geyser – still in heavy steam phase at 19:00. All algae which had been growing on the ledge has been killed and washed away. The area appears as if the eruption deposited considerable amounts of silica. Most of the steam is roaring out of the main, angled vent at 200ºF. Considerable steam is also coming from the vent at the bottom of the empty pool, however at a cooler temperature of 170ºF. The vent which splashed all summer has a loud rumble emanating from deep inside, but no steam is coming out. Thermometer lowered 6 feet down showed only 74ºF. Two markers are in place below Ledge.
