Note:2/19/1983 (Discovered Feb 12 by Fred Hirschmann) Rick Hutchinson and I (Cheryl B) quickly came to see the new addition. At the time of the discovery it was erupting every 20-29 minutes (average of 24 minutes) & about 20 feet high. The amount of discharge was estimated at 3-4 gallons per second. It was like a wave on the beach. The discharge flows into a large depression that is ~2 yrs old right at the base of the hill. Fine new addition to the geysers there in Porc. A week later I was checking the new geyser & the changes were very noticeable. The interval had shortened & the crater more than doubled in size. Previously it was ~2’ in diameter but now it was crescent shaped & about 6-7’ long. The “dark part of the moon” was undermined & falling in. The area doesn’t look very stable at all.
