Note:10/24/1964 Steamboat, 25 days later, is little different. The frequency of plays is still increasing, but they are not of great volume or duration. From 10:08 am to 10:38 am, the south vent played 42 times, the north vent was 4 times. The south vent plays were as yesterday 3 of the 4 north vent plays were strong – up to 30 feet- and simultaneous with south vent eruptions. From 1:47 pm to 2:17 pm, the south vent played 41 times while the north vent was active 5 times. The south vent plays were as before while all 5 of the north vent plays were weak. At 2:50 pm, both vents played briefly to about 50 feet – I thought it was going. The water level has not changed – still about 10 feet down. There seems to be more runoff in main channel in the morning – maybe due to wind and slow dissipation of steam? Steamboat’s behavior during the last week or so seems to be cyclic – periods of sustained activity last about 5 minutes, then a quieter period follows for several minutes.
