I think this is the feature Scott calls Old Surprise Spring. It has been erupting every 10-12 minutes during our Fountain sit, but you have to judge more from the steam cloud because from the overlook it's over a small shoulder of land and it looks like the formation is a deep bowl. |

I thought "Waterfall Geyser" at West Thumb was in here - did someone give it a number? 3/4 full of blue, opaque water. Some bubbles rising in it. Also, "Dancing Geyser" continues to be full and blue and overflowing with microbes growing in the overflow channel. Thumb Geyser was half full, blue opaque water with orange microbes around the edges. The UTF behind Thumb Geyser that has been active for quite some time was splashing. And, I'll add in Percolating Spring here as well since it's not yet listed: No water at all - vent is still full of gravel (amazingly so - really wonder what happened there) Oil Slick is also probably not in here - no water, also no water in Ephedra or Perforated. Lakeside Spring had heavier than normal overflow. Bluebell Pool and Seismograph Pool are also still well below overflow. |

Mammoth update: Grassy Springs flow stops around the near edge of the three way boardwalk intersection. Dryad is dry. Not even a puff of steam. Canary is extending more in the direction of Jupiter Terrace. Water is not filling the old vent. Decent flow down Marble Terrace. New Blue is pretty and flowing into the terraces. A small trickle is reaching the bottom of the hill. Narrow Gauge has great color to the far end. Orange Spring Mound is still flowing well from the end near the road. Prospect Spring still active, though flow much less than on my June visit and not threatening the road. Mound Spring is still flowing well. Palette is flowing well from the pool west of Devil's Thumb. Thankfully the flow is more away from the Thumb. The pool to the east of the Thumb is not overflowing the terrace as much as usual but appears hotter. The overflow is going south and west of that pool rather than over the side and is pooling hotter water. Cleopatra is unchanged. |

NGB: Increased cyclic activity from three holes up slope NNE from Incline G, just below the two grindstone looking mounds, with heavy forced splashes then a roar of steam, then quiet, repeated in waves. This appears to be very nearly in the same location as the blowout which occurred in Sept 1971 and will do some photo comparisons. Will keep an eye on it! - - -
Visible water also is pulsing out below the thick sinter at the base of the slope below the old roadway E of the Incline location. Farther south cool groundwater from the over full Nuphar area also continues to flow at a steady rate into the basin but the green algae growths are diminishing. - - -
Cross referencing this as an Incline Note also since finding things in Other Geyser is not always simple if you don't remember the year. |
